Front Axle



Front Axle Components, Removing and Installing

Overview





1. Drive axle with ABS wheel speed sensor rotor
^ Check rotor for dirt and damage
^ If rotor is damaged, drive axle must be removed and outer CV joint must be replaced
^ Outer CV joint is supplied with rotor as replacement part
2. Bolt with washer
^ 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
3. Bracket
^ Install wheel speed sensor wire grommet in bracket
4. Flanged bolt
^ Always replace
^ Tighten to 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.) plus additional 1/4-turn (90°)

WARNING: Loosen and tighten the flanged bolt only with the vehicle standing on its wheels. Otherwise, there is risk of accident

5. Clamping sleeve
^ Always replace
^ Identical part on right and left
^ Grease all around sleeve with brake cylinder paste before installing in swing arm
^ Press into swing arm to stop
6. Seal
7. ABS wheel speed sensor, -G45- or -G47-
^ Identical part on right and left
^ Removing
^ Before installing, install seal and grease all around with brake cylinder paste. Then press in to stop by hand.
^ Harness connector for speed sensor

ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Rotor, Checking and Cleaning

- Remove wheel.
- Pull ABS wheel speed sensor out of swing arm.





- Check ABS wheel speed sensor rotor for dirt and damage through hole in swing arm.

Note:
^ If the rotor is damaged, the outer CV joint that the rotor is on must be replaced.
^ The outer CV joint is supplied with the rotor as a replacement part.

To clean ABS wheel speed sensor rotor:





- Loosen flanged bolt on drive axle.

WARNING: Loosen and tighten the flanged bolt only with the vehicle standing on its wheels. Otherwise, there is risk of accident

- Push drive axle inward; clean rotor as necessary.
