Rear Axle



Rear Axle Components, Removing and Installing

Overview





1. Stub axle with ABS wheel speed sensor rotor
^ Front-wheel drive only
^ Check rotor for dirt and damage
^ If rotor is damaged, stub axle with rotor must be replaced
^ Stub axle is supplied with rotor as replacement part
2. Outer CV joint with ABS wheel speed sensor rotor
^ All-wheel drive only
^ Check rotor for dirt and damage
^ If rotor is damaged, outer CV joint with rotor must be replaced
^ Outer CV joint is supplied with rotor as replacement part
3. ABS wheel speed sensor, -G44- or -G46-
^ Identical part on right and left
^ Before installing, install seal and grease all around with brake cylinder paste. Then press in to stop by hand.
4. Seal
5. Clamping sleeve
^ Always replace
^ Identical part on right and left
^ Grease all around with brake cylinder paste before installing in wheel bearing housing
^ Press into wheel bearing housing to stop
6. Clips for ABS wheel speed sensor wire
Removing:
- Detach wheel speed sensor plug connection and disconnect
- Detach wheel speed sensor wire from clips

ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Rotor, Checking and Replacing
- Remove wheel.
- Pull ABS wheel speed sensor out of wheel bearing housing.





- Check ABS wheel speed sensor rotor for dirt and damage through hole in wheel bearing housing (front axle shown).

Notes:
^ It is important to differentiate between drivetrain configurations; front-wheel drive systems use stub axles and all wheel drive systems use drive axles.
^ If the rotor is damaged or dirty, remove the stub axle or drive axle. If the rotor is damaged, replace the component with the rotor.
^ Stub axles and outer CV joints are supplied with rotors as replacement parts.
