Aluminum Wheel Bearing Housing



Track Control Link, Aluminum Wheel Bearing Housing

Removing
^ Remove wheel trim; on light-alloy wheels, pull off trim cap (use puller in vehicle tool kit).
^ Remove wheel.
Vehicles with headlight vertical aim control, Refer to Lighting and Horns.
^ Secure brake disc with a lug bolt.
^ Remove brake caliper and secure at subframe.

Notes:
^ Cover the boot (e.g. by inserting a leather cloth) to protect it from damage.
^ For safety reasons, reinstall collar nut on track control link joint pin and tighten flush with about 4 turns.





^ Press track control link joint pin out of tapered seat.
To remove the hex bolt securing the suspension strut to the track control link, the guide link must first be detached from the wheel bearing housing.
^ Counter hold joint pin with 4 mm AF hex key if necessary.
^ Remove nut from joint pin of track control link.

Note: For safety reasons, reinstall collar nut on track control link joint pin and tighten flush with about 4 turns.





^ Remove guide link joint pin nut and press off joint pin.
Do not damage joint protective boot when doing this!





^ Remove hex bolt -1-.
^ Remove ribbed nuts -2- and -3- and remove connecting link.
^ Install a support device (e.g. engine/transmission support VAG 1 383-A) to prevent damage to the upper link joints resulting from excessive rebound travel.
^ Remove hex bolt -4-.
^ Remove track control link.

Installing
^ All bolts and nuts must be replaced.
^ Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent. The bolted connections on the suspension links should therefore only be tightened when the vehicle is standing on the ground.

^ Install new hex bolt -4- and new hex nut.
^ Tighten to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.) plus additional 90 ° turn.
^ Tighten nuts on joint pins (guide link/track control link) to 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten hex nut -1- to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.).
Note modified coupling and tightening torques, Refer to Stabilizer Link,Service and Repair.
The arrow on the connecting link points in the direction of travel.
^ Tighten nut -2- to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) plus additional 90° turn.
^ Tighten nut -3- to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
^ Install brake disc, bolt on brake caliper and tighten to 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.) (M14x1.5x38).
