Windshield, Removing
Necessary tools and materials.
WARNING: Always wear protective goggles and leather gloves when removing a windshield.
- Pry lower windshield molding trim out of retaining clips starting at A-pillar and remove.
- Remove plenum chamber cover => Fig. 1.
- Remove interior rear-view mirror.
- Remove A-pillar trim trim.
- Pierce hole in adhesive sealing material from inside of vehicle using awl at bottom-left of windshield.
- Thread cutting wire through awl and pull into inside of vehicle.
- Lay cutting wire underneath and all around inside of windshield.
- Secure end of cutting wire at bolt for securing windshield wiper frame.
- Insert VAG1474/8 protective foil between windshield and instrument panel.
- Remove sun visors on left, center and right.
- Insert VAG1474/9 protective foil between molded headliner and windshield.
- Secure beginning of cutting wire in winding device and cut first area of adhesive (up to about center of windshield).
- Move winding device as shown in diagram and continue cutting adhesive.
- Move winding device as shown in diagram and attach relay pulley.
- Route cutting wire as shown.
- Cut adhesive up to point where wire no longer runs in relay pulley.
- Remove relay pulley and continue to cut adhesive.
- Move winding device as shown in diagram and attach relay pulley in upper corner of window.
- Route cutting wire as shown.
- Cut adhesive up to point where wire no longer runs in relay pulley.
- Remove relay pulley and continue to cut adhesive.
- Repeat these steps in top-left and bottom-left corners of windshield.
- Cut window completely free.
- Remove window using two double suction cups.
