Combination Switch: Service and Repair
CAUTION! Before disconnecting the battery, determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.
Removing steering column switch
- Remove driver-side airbag unit.
WARNING! Observe all safety precautions before starting work on any part of the airbag system. Service Precautions
- Remove steering wheel.
- Pull out steering column and tilt downward as far as it will go.
- Remove screws -1- (2x).
Tightening torque: 2.8 Nm (25 in. lb).
- Remove grip -2-.
- Remove two Phillips-head screws (arrows).
Tightening torque: 0.6 Nm (5 in. lb).
- Remove upper section of steering column switch trim -1-.
NOTE: When installing, insert the upper section intO the hooks on the lower section, swivel it downward and install screws.
- Remove screws -2- (2x).
Tightening torque: 0.6 Nm (5 in. lb).
- Remove socket-head bolt -1-.
Tightening torque: 0.6 Nm (5 in. lb).
- Remove lower steering column switch trim -3-.
- Disconnect harness connector -1-.
- Release locking lugs (arrows) and remove spiral spring with slip ring from steering column switch.
CAUTION! The steering must be in the center position (wheels in straight-ahead position) when the spiral spring and slip ring are removed and installed.
- Remove screw -2-.
Tightening torque: 2.8 Nm (25 in. lb).
- Disconnect harness connectors -3- (2x).
- Remove steering column switch -4-.
The installation is the reverse of removal.
