Customer requests Deactivation or Reactivation of rear side Airbags.

CAUTION!
The Deactivating or Reactivating procedure should only be done at the customer's written and signed request (see attached request form).
Note:
Please make copies of the attached form as needed.
Deactivation
If a customer requests deactivation of the rear side Airbags, two steps must be performed.
Step 1. - Recode control module to switch rear side airbags OFF.
^ Code control module as if vehicle has NO rear side airbags.
See Repair Manual, Body-On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Repair Group 01, Vehicles from calendar week 36.98 (Airbag 8)".
Note:
Only the following combinations are possible:
Step 2. - Electrically disconnect rear side Airbag units.
See Repair Manual, Body-Interior Side airbags rear; disabling and enabling.
When deactivation is complete:
- Affix appropriate adhesive language labels from label kits (see table) to right and left inner door frames as outlined in procedure.

- Fax copies of Repair Order and completed and signed customer request form to Audi Product Support at: (800) 839-5499. Also retain a copy for your records.
Activation
If a customer requests activation of the rear side Airbags, both of the following steps must be performed.
Step 1. - Electrically connect rear side Airbag units.
See Repair Manual, Body-Interior, Side airbags rear, disabling and enabling.
Step 2. - Recode control module to switch rear side airbags ON.
^ Code control module (according to table) for vehicle with rear side airbags.
See Repair Manual, Body-On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Repair Group 01, Vehicles from calendar week 36.98 (Airbag 8)".
When activation is complete:
- Remove adhesive language labels from right and left inner door frames.
- Fax copies of Repair Order and completed and signed customer request form to Audi Product Support at: (800) 839-5499. Also retain a copy for your records.
