Windshield, Preparing For Glazing

Preparing used undamaged window for glazing
- When reusing an undamaged windshield, cut back remaining adhesive sealing material on windshield and flange until even using VAG1561 electric cutter and VAG1561/10 scraper, but do not remove completely.
Remaining material is required as a base for better adhesion of the new adhesive bonding/sealing material to be applied.

CAUTION:
- Keep the adhesive surface clean and grease-free
- Do not cut back the adhesive surface until shortly before installing the windshield.
- Do not prime or use a cleaning agent on the adhesive surface.

Preparing new window for glazing

- Clean surface of windshield to be bonded using windshield cleaning agent D 009 401 04.
- Prime surface to be bonded with D 009 200 02 as described on.

WARNING: The ceramic layer on the windshield is not primed! Prime before applying the adhesive bonding material







Applying primer







- Apply primer - 2 - (evenly) using applicator - 1 -.
Initially apply using felt ball saturated with primer.
- Allow primer to air dry for approx. 10 minutes.
Width of primer coat -a- = approx. 20 mm (approx. 3/4 in.).
- Apply primer in center of adhesive bead.







Dimensions for application of adhesive
1 - Adhesive bead
2 - Primer
3 - Windshield
Dimension -a- = 8 mm (0.315 in.)
Dimension -b- = 12 mm (0.472 in.)
Dimension -c- = spacing between center of adhesive bead and edge of windshield varies.

Windshield flange, reworking
If the windshield flange has been repaired or replaced, the paint structure should be restored according to the following specifications:
- Area must be cleaned with D 009 401 04 and then primed with D 009 200 02.
