Rear Side Airbag, Removing And Installing

Removing

CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting the vehicle battery. Switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting the vehicle battery.

CAUTION: Note safety specifications when working on airbag.


- For vehicles with coded radio unit, radio/navigation system (RNS) note coding; ask if necessary.
- Disconnect battery ground strap and cover negative pole.
- Remove rear seat bench.
- Remove rear seatback.







- Using screwdriver, pry out cushion hook - 1 - at area - A - of side airbag in direction of arrow.







- Turn over lock bracket - 3 - and disconnect connector - 2 - from side airbag - 1 -.
- Pull seatback cover - 5 - at side airbag area to side until nuts are in view.
- Remove three nuts - 4 -

NOTE: Ground cable is fastened to one of the nuts.

- Press side airbag approx. 10 mm to cushion and remove from the top.

Installing
Installation is done in reverse sequence, noting the following:

CAUTION: In order to ensure function of side airbag, replace upholstery clips when working on seatback cover to exact location prior to removal.







- Seatback covers - 1 - recognized by "AIRBAG" sewn label.
- For vehicles with side airbag "AIRBAG" sewn label cannot remove.







- Fasten ground cable with one of the nuts - 4 - (5 Nm/44 in.lb.).

CAUTION: Note instructions for installing rear seatback.
