Wheel Bearing Assembly Overview


Wheel bearing assembly, overview





1 - Suspension strut
- Detaching suspension strut from wheel bearing housing go to Fig 1
- Assembly overview; Refer to Suspension Strut
2 - Self - locking nut
- Tighten to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.) and turn 90° further
- Replace each time after removing
3 - Hex socket head bolt
- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 ft. lbs.)
4 - Speed sensor
- Before inserting sensor, clean fitting hole inner surface and coat with lubricating paste G 000 650
- 5 - Self - locking nut
- Tighten to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)
- Replace each time after removing
6 - Tie rod end
7 - Hex bolt
- Tighten to 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
8 - Self - locking 12 - point nut
- Observe Notes and Refer to Splines, Drive Axle/Wheel Hub
- Replace each time after removing
9 - Phillips - head screw
- Tighten to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.)
10 - Ventilated brake disc
11 - Wheel hub with speed sensor rotor
- Observe Notes and Refer to Splines, Drive Axle/Wheel Hub
- Rotor is welded to wheel hub
- Removing and installing, refer to Suspension, Wheel Bearing
12 - Splash plate
13 - Circlip
- Ensure that circlip is correctly seated
14 - Wheel bearing
- Removing and installing, refer to Suspension, Wheel Bearing

Notes: Before pressing in wheel bearing, coat complete inside surface of wheel bearing housing with MoS2 grease go to Fig. 2

15 - Self - locking nut
- Tighten to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.)
- Replace each time after removing
16 - Ball joint
- Checking; Refer to Ball Joint
- Removing and installing; Refer to Ball Joint
- Mark installation position. If replaced, set to center of elongated hole and check toe setting and camber
- Wheel alignment; Refer to Alignment
17 - Brake carrier
18 - Brake caliper
- Do not loosen brake hose when working on front suspension
- Hang up with wire or similar
- Servicing, refer to Brakes and Traction Control
19 - Guide pins
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
20 - Protective cap
21 - Ribbed bolt w/washer assembly
- Tighten to 125 Nm(92 ft. lbs.)
- Clean ribs on under side of bolt head
22 - Hex bolt
- Replace each time after removing
23 - Wheel bearing housing
- Removing and installing; Refer to Steering Knuckle

Notes: Before pressing in wheel bearing, coat complete inside surface of wheel bearing housing with MoS2 grease go to Fig. 2

24 - Drive axle
- Observe Notes and Refer to Splines, Drive Axle/Wheel Hub
- Pulling drive axle out from wheel hub and pressing in, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain, Drive Axles, Bearing and Joints.

- Apply special tool 3424 as shown and pry apart wheel bearing housing.

Fig. 2 Coat complete inside surface of wheel bearing housing with MoS2 grease (AOS 115/000 01)





Notes: A grease pad (3 grams) is supplied with replacement wheel bearings.
