Shutter wheel for wheel speed sensor, checking; and right front/left front ABS wheel speed sensor -G45-/-G47-, removing and installing
- Remove wheel
- Rotate wheel hub and check gap between shutter wheel and wheel speed sensor for uniformity (run-out tolerance). Incorporate wheel bearing play into this test.
Run-out tolerance of the shutter wheel is 0.3 mm.
Replace the shutter wheel together with the wheel hub if a mechanical wheel speed sensor malfunction is diagnosed by the ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104- that is influencing its signal without authorization, no damage can be found at the wheel speed sensor and the run-out tolerance is not being maintained.
- Check shutter wheel of wheel speed sensor for soiling.
- Clean shutter wheel if shutter wheel holes are plugged with dirt.
- Disconnect harness connector -1- from wheel speed sensor wire and wheel speed sensor.
- Unscrew socket head bolt -2- for right and left front wheel speed sensors -G45-/-G47-.
- Remove right and left front wheel speed sensors -G45-/-G47-.
- Before inserting sensor, clean inner surface of sensor mount and coat with securing grease G 000 650.
- Insert ABS wheel speed sensors.
- Tighten socket head bolt -2- to 8 Nm.
- Connect harness connector -1-.
Installing front wheel speed sensor wiring
- Disconnect Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor connector -1- from air duct of air filter.
- Remove bolts -2- at air filter -3- and set these aside on left.
- Disengage multi-pin connector and disconnect from control module.
- Loosen and remove cap of multi-pin connector using a screwdriver.
- Disengage secondary engagement device (violet) in direction of arrow using small screwdriver.
Terminal assignment of harness connector wiring harness / ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104-
- Using an appropriate prodding tool from VAS1978 wiring harness repair set, poke out the relevant terminals.
- Disengage connector at wheel speed sensor and disconnect harness connector.
- Remove faulty wheel speed sensor wire and thread new wheel speed sensor wire.
- Connect wire to wheel speed sensor.
Be sure not to twist wheel speed sensor wire in wheel housing when installing wheel speed sensor.
- Guide terminal into connector housing and push the single wire seal in until impact using an appropriate pushing tool from VAS1978.
- Secure terminals with the secondary engagement device and place multi-pin connector cap on this.
