Compression Check: Testing and Inspection

Compression, checking
Test requirements
^ Engine oil temperature not less than 30°C

^ Remove engine cover.





^ Pull connector off Hall sender (G40) - arrow -.
^ With ignition switched off, unplug connectors from ignition coils.
^ Unbolt ignition coils.
^ Remove spark plugs with spark plug spanner 3122B.
^ Fully open throttle valve.
^ Check compressions with compression tester V.A.G 1381 or V.A.G 1763.

Notes: Using the compression tester:
Refer to Operating instructions

^ Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Compression pressure:





^ Install spark plugs and ignition coils.
^ Check DTC memory.

Notes: DTCs will be stored in file memory because connectors have been unplugged. Therefore, check and erase DTC memory after installing the engine.
