Display Group 1: Zeroing the Steering Angle Sensor

Display group 1: Zeroing the steering angle sensor -G85-
Zeroing of the steering angle sensor-G85 must be accurate to ±5 degrees.

The steering angle sensor -G85- must be zeroed:
^ If the ABS control module -J104-, the steering angle sensor -G85-, or the steering column was replaced
^ After coding the ABS control module -J104-
^ If adjustments were made to the running gear
^ If you found a DTC in the DTC memory of the ABS control module -J104- and the DTC table indicated the sensor needs to be zeroed.

- Turn the engine on.
- Turn the steering wheel one turn to the right and one turn to the left.
- On a level surface, carry out a short test drive. Drive straight ahead and do not exceed 20 km/h.
- If the steering wheel is level during the test drive, stop the car.
- Zero the sensor.

Do not move the steering wheel.

Do not switch ignition off.

Or
- If the steering wheel is not level, check the wheel alignment and adjust as necessary
- Check the suspension geometry and center the steering according to the operation manual for the alignment machine. This means you adjust the front wheels to face directly ahead.
- Zero the sensor.

Do not move the steering wheel.

Do not switch ignition off.
- Connect VAS5051 tester or VAG1551 scan tool and select the address word 03 "Brake Electronics".

- Press buttons -1- and -1- to select "Login Procedure" function 11.

- Press the -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press buttons -4-, -0-, -1-, -6- and -8- to input code 40168. Press -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press buttons -0- and -4- to select "Basic Setting" function 04.

- Press the -Q- button to confirm input.

- Press buttons -0-, -0- and -1-. Press -Q- button to confirm input.





If this appears in display, the "Login Procedure" has not been successfully carried out

- Check the zero position using "Read Measuring Value Block" function 08 Refer to, Read Measuring Value Block (Scan Tool Function 08) and display group 5.

- Check DTC memory.
- Erase DTC memory.
- Switch ignition off.
- Switch ignition on.
- Then repeat zeroing.
- Advance through program sequence by pressing (arrow) button.

- Switch ignition off.
- Switch ignition on.
- Then repeat zeroing.
- Advance through program sequence by pressing (arrow) button.
