High Intensity Gas Discharge (Xenon) Headlights, Overview
NOTE: The headlights must be adjusted after any work done that could affect the beam adjustment.
1 - Trim (rubber)
- Insert in all retainers of headlight housing
2 - Lens
- Removing: remove rubber trim -1-, lever off 8 clamps, -3-
3 - Clamp
- 8 pieces
- Removing: lever off clamps with screwdriver
- Installing: engage clamps by hand
4 - Seal
- Pull off
- Replace if damaged
5 - Reflector frame
- Press off evenly at top and bottom
6 - Reflector
- With headlight inserts
- Must be removed when removing igniter for gas discharge lamp -22-.
Removing when headlight is disassembled:
- Remove headlight beam adjusting motor -18-
- Remove arrester of reflector from headlight adjustment screws by turning headlight adjustment screws.
- Disengage connector for ground cable at harness -24- and disconnect.
Installing:
- Insert activator pin for changing to right/left hand traffic into hole of trim in reflector.
7 - Bulb for high beam
- 12 V, 65W with socket
- Removing: turn bulb holder to right and remove toward rear.
- Installing: insert tabs of socket into recesses and turn left.
8 - Bulb for parking light
- 12 V, 5W
9 - Bulb for fog light
- 12 V, 55W
10 - Bulb for low beam (gas discharge lamp)
- 12 V, 35W
Removing:
- Turn socket to left and remove.
- Depress spring ring -11- and turn to left.
Installing:
- When inserting observe installation position.

- For gas discharge lamp
12 - Control module for high intensity gas discharge (Xenon) lamp left (J343) or right (J344)
13 - TORX-screw T 25 H
14 - Cover
15 - Plastic washer
16 - Screw
17 - Seal
- Check for damage
18 - Headlight beam adjusting motor - V48/V49
Removing:
- Turn motor around its axis.
- Disengage ball joint downward from socket at reflector.
19 - Seal
- Check for damage
20 - Bracket
- Replace if damaged
- Push in to stop.
21 - Headlight housing
22 - Igniter for high intensity gas discharge (Xenon) lamps -N195
- Removing: remove reflector -6-
- Position wiring for gas discharge lamp in clamp.
23 - TORX- screw
24 - Harness
- With lamp socket for parking light and ground wire
25 - Harness
- For igniter and control module
Change-over lever for right hand drive or left hand drive traffic
The lever for change-over to right hand or left hand drive traffic -1- can be reached from the outside.
- R/D - Position for right hand traffic
- L/G - Position for left hand traffic
For halogen headlights, the lever is on the inside of the headlight assembly.
- Insert actuator pin into hole in trim of reflector.
