Front Wheel Bearing Housing (Steel), Removing and Installing
Removing
^ Pry off hub cap or remove using extraction tool 3208.
^ Remove collar bolt -arrow-.
WARNING! To reduce the risk of accident, vehicle must be standing on the ground when removing and tightening collar bolt.
^ Remove wheel.
^ Secure brake disc with a lug bolt.
^ Pull wiring -1- for brake-pad wear indicator out of retainer.
^ Pull out ABS wheel-speed sensor -3- and wiring -2-.
^ Remove brake caliper -4-.
Notes:
^ Suspend brake caliper from bodywork with a piece of wire.
^ Do not suspend the brake caliper from the brake hose.
^ Remove brake disc.
^ Remove bolt with washer -3- and bolt -4-.
Notes:
^ Discontinuation of bolt with washer 3- at right tie rod
^ Wheel alignment after carrying out repair, Refer to Alignment, Description and Operation.
^ Pull out tie rod.
^ Remove splash plate -2-.
^ Remove nuts -1- and -3-.
^ Use special tool to detach ball joint of guide link from tapered seat.

^ Use special tool to detach ball joint of track control link from tapered seat.
Notes:
^ Cover the boot (e.g. by inserting a leather cloth) to protect it from damage.
^ For safety reasons, reinstall collar nut on track control link joint pin and tighten by about 4 turns.
^ Remove collar bolt (drive axle/wheel hub connection).
^ Remove nut -1- and remove bolt.
^ Pull out the two links -2-.
Note: Slots in wheel bearing housing must not be enlarged.
^ Swivel wheel bearing housing in direction of arrow; in doing so pull drive axle out of wheel hub.
^ Remove nut from ball joint of track control link.
^ Remove wheel bearing housing.
Pay special attention to the information when installing
^ Press home ABS wheel-speed sensor in wheel bearing housing.
Tightening torques
^ Track control link to wheel bearing housing: 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.)
^ Guide link to wheel bearing housing: 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.)
^ Upper link to wheel bearing housing: 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
While tightening, press upper links into wheel bearing housing.
^ Brake guard plate to wheel bearing housing: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
^ Brake caliper to wheel bearing housing: 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.)
^ Tighten collar bolt to 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.) plus additional 180° turn.
WARNING! To reduce the risk of accidents, vehicle must be standing on its wheels when loosening and tightening collar bolt.
