Front Side Airbag (Sport Seat), Removing And Installing

Removing


CAUTION!
Note safety specifications when working on airbag.


- For vehicles with coded radio unit, radio/navigation system (RNS) note coding; ask if necessary.
- Disconnect battery ground strap/cable and cover negative pole.
- Remove front seat.







- Remove connector at seat pan -2- for side airbag with bracket.
- Cut through three cable ties -3-.
- Pull wire -1- through loop -4-.







- Remove wire for side airbag from connector housing -4-.
- Press bracket -5- downward using screwdriver and slide bracket in direction of arrow.
- Slide violet fuse -7- one notch in direction of arrow and remove wire.


NOTE:
Cavity routing of connector housing:
- Blue wire to terminal 1.
- Brown wire to terminal 2.


- Pull wire -1- through cut out -2-.
- Remove seatback cover.







- Turn over lock bracket -4- and disconnect connector -2- from side airbag -1-.
- Unscrew 2 nuts -3-.
5 - Fasten ground cable with lower nut -3-.







- Unscrew bolt -1- (6 Nm/53 in. lb).
- Press side airbag approx. 10 mm toward front and unhook from brackets -3-.
- Remove side airbag -1-.

Installing
Installation is done in reverse sequence, noting the following:


CAUTION!
In order to ensure function of side airbag, new upholstery clips must be installed at the same place prior to removal when working on seatback cover.







- For seats with side airbag at area -a-, place 4 upholstery clips (arrows) instead of 2.







- Seatback cover -1- recognized by "AIRBAG" sewn label.
- For vehicles with side airbag "AIRBAG" sewn label cannot remove.







- For optical and functional reasons covers with welting seam of leather/material height -3- on the inner side must always point outward.

- For correct installation of leather/material height welting and "AIRBAG" sewn label point toward the front and not outward.







- Install nuts with fluid locking compound "D 000 600 A2" (6 Nm/53 in. lb).







- To guide wire for new cover -1- cut opening -2- in area of cable guide using scissors.
