Component Notes And Information

NOTE:
^ Refer to the illustrations above and the information below when servicing the shift controls.
^ Lubricate the shift controls at the points specified with G 052 142 A2 or equivalent.

1 Selector lever handle
- Push sleeve -2- down, pull button on handle out to stop and pull handle off upward
2 Sleeve
- Check O-ring in sleeve for correct seating or damage

NOTE: For all other repair work on the selector lever mechanism, the front center console must be removed.

3 Cover
- With transmission range display and display for shift lock
- To remove, unlock holding tabs from bracket
- Remove upward, together with insert -5- and cable -4-
- Unclip holder for wiring connector on bracket -23- and disconnect connector
- Wire routing refer to Figs. 1, 2 below
4 Fiber optic cable
- With wiring harness and LEDs for basic illumination
- Wire routing refer to, Figs. 1, 2 below
5 Insert
- Disconnect from cover -3- together with fiber optic cable -4-
6 Bolt
- Install together with washer
- Qty: 4
7 Shutter
- Unclip wiring holder on bracket -23-, disconnect connector
- Wire routing refer to Figs. 1, 2 below
- Remove from guide together with individual transmission range display -8-
8 Individual transmission range display
- With lamp holder and wiring harness
- Unclip from four holding tabs on shutter -7- (slide lamp holder slightly toward center of shutter)
9 Guide
- To remove, unlock four holding tabs on bracket -23-
10 Selector lever
- Remove together with pull rod -12- and spring -11-
11 Spring
- For pull rod
12 Pull rod
- Install in selector lever, together with spring -11-
13 Notched plate
- To remove, loosen snaps to cable lever refer to Fig. 4 below
14 Cable lever
- Grease bearing points for cable lever axles before installing
15 Engagement for Tiptronic
- Not applicable to USA/Canada
16 Bolt
- For detent
17 Detent
- Attach to bracket together with spring clip refer to Fig. 4 below
18 Bolt
- For selector lever -10-
- Removing: press out to back
- To install, place chamfered surface on head of bolt toward contact surface of bracket
19 Clip

20 Toothed ring
- Always replace
- 2 pieces (left and right)
- For securing cable lever axles axially
- Removing: pry out using screwdriver
21 Cable lever axle, left
- For mounting cable lever -14-

NOTE: The left cable lever axle is shorter than the right lever axle.

NOTE: Cables must not be routed between the body and the bracket.





Fig. 3 Removing And Installing Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
- Disconnect selector lever mechanism from body refer to Replacement. Service and Repair
- Disconnect connector -E-.
- Unlock holding tab -Z- of guard plate from bracket.
- Rotate shift lock solenoid in direction of arrow.
- After replacing shift lock solenoid, check operation of controls. Testing and Inspection

- Remove guide from slide.
- Remove bolt -1- and remove notched plate together with detent.
- Move selector lever to "P" position.
- Unlock holding tabs -2- of notched plate for cable lever and remove notched plate.

Disconnecting Cable
- Lift tabs -A- slightly and turn sleeve -13- approx. 45° and release lock.
- Pull sleeve -13- from front selector lever cable (in direction of arrow).
- Remove ball head from ball socket.
Connecting Cable
- Check gasket -C- for damage and proper seating; replace if necessary.
- Install ball head in ball socket.
- Push sleeve -13- on (in direction of arrow) and turn approx. 45°.
- Check lock on sleeve -B-.
