Servicing
As of production date approximately September 1998, the carbon fiber drive shaft was replaced with a steel version. A faulty carbon fiber drive shaft can be replaced with a metal drive shaft.
Note:
^ Do not bend drive shaft. Permissible bending angle 15°, otherwise the universal joint could be damaged.
^ Always store and transport drive shaft stretched out.
^ Drive shafts be repaired - except removing and installing and aligning.
^ If the drive shaft must be separated from the rear final drive, the drive shaft must be supported or hung up with wire.
^ Before removal, mark position of all parts one against the other. to assure that the drive shaft is installed in the same position, otherwise the balance may be off causing damage to bearings and humming noise.
^ In case of complaints about noise or vibration it is important to first check and correct the alignment before deciding to replace the drive shaft.
^ After removal of the drive shaft from the rear final drive, do not reinstall additional balance washer (thicker washer) that may be between washer and bolt head.
