Description of On-Board Diagnostics

Ultrasonic Interior Monitor, On Board Diagnostic (OBD)

General information

The ultrasonic interior monitor is only available in conjunction with the anti-theft alarm.

As an additional optional extra, it further enhances the level of security provided by the anti-theft alarm system.

The interior monitor triggers the anti-theft alarm if an attempt is made to break into the vehicle.

Function
The ultrasonic interior monitor consists of the following:
- Ultrasonic sensor control module -J347
- Left ultrasonic sensor for anti-theft alarm system -G170
- Right ultrasonic sensor for anti-theft alarm system -G171
- Glass breakage sensor, rear left side window -G183 (Avant only)
- Glass breakage sensor, rear right side window -G184 (Avant only)
- Interior monitor switch -E183

The ultrasonic sensors in the upper right/left B-pillar trim monitor the door windows and relay the monitoring signal to the ultrasonic sensor control module.

In the event of a change in the monitoring signal, the ultrasonic sensor control module triggers an alarm by way of the anti-theft alarm control module.

The glass breakage sensors in the side windows and the conductor loop in the rear window provide external vehicle security, however only for the Avant.

The interior monitor control module actuates the warning lamps next to the locking knobs on the doors. This warning lamp permits additional interior monitor diagnosis.

When locking up the vehicle, the interior monitor can be deactivated manually with the interior monitor switch if, for example, if a dog is to remain in the vehicle.

The ultrasonic interior monitor is provided with comprehensive On Board Diagnostic (OBD). DTCs are stored in the DTC Memory of the control module if faults occur in system components. The faults can be determined using the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) or V.A.G 1552.
