Standard Seat

NOTE: Head restraint guide - 1- is shown removed in the illustration.

- If backrest heater element is sewn into backrest seat cover, replace cover as well
4 - Backrest trim

Removing
- Remove seat. [1][2]Procedures
- Remove backrest. Service and Repair
- Insert screwdriver on one side, pry out rear footwell light and disconnect harness connector.
- Pry backrest cover fastening strip from backrest trim -4-.
- Detach backrest trim -4- from clips -5- and remove trim -4- downward.
- Remove backrest cover at rear.
- Press catch on left-hand rod and remove head restraint -7-.
- Remove head restraint guide -8-. See Fig. 1.
- Lift seat cover fabric and cut through upholstery clips -1- (inset -A-) and remove padding -2-.
- Remove backrest heating element -3-.

Installing
- Use VAG1634 stapling tool to install new upholstery clips
- To ease assembly, push longitudinal rods back to first transverse rod
- Using upholstery clips, install transverse rods first, then longitudinal rods

4 - Hole

- Insert screwdriver or upholstery needle -3- (max. width 2 mm or 0.079 in.) into hole -4- (opposite retaining clip for head restraint guide).
- Pry screwdriver -3- in direction of arrow -A-, press retainer tab -2- in direction of arrow -B- and remove head restraint guide -1-.
