Test sequence
- Start engine and perform a road test.
- Observe consumption display in instrument cluster.

A - consumption display constant 0.0 L/100 km


NOTE: If the consumption display is constant 0,0 L/100 km, the signal wire could have a short circuit to Ground (GND).


- Switch ignition off.
- Connect the respective test box to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
- Remove instrument cluster.
- Connect VAG1598A test box to blue 32-pin multi-pin harness connector using VAG1598/25 adapter.
- Connect multimeter for resistance measurement between terminal 25 of VAG1598/25 test box and the terminal for consumption signal at test box for Engine Control Module (ECM).
- Specification: smaller than 2 ohm
- Connect multimeter for resistance measurement between socket for consumption signal at test box for Engine Control Module (ECM) and to Ground (GND).
- Specification: larger than 9 Mohm

If the specified values are reached, the wire connection is OK

B - consumption display constant 51.0 L/100 km


NOTE: If the consumption display is constant 51.0 L/100 km, the signal wire could have an open circuit.


- Switch ignition off.
- Connect the respective test box to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
- Remove instrument cluster.
- Connect VAG1598A test box to blue 32-pin multi-pin harness connector using VAG1598/25 adapter.
- Connect multimeter for resistance measurement between terminal 25 of VAG1598/25 test box and the terminal for consumption signal at test box for Engine Control Module (ECM).
- Specification: smaller than 2 ohm.
- Connect multimeter for resistance measurement between socket for consumption signal at test box for Engine Control Module (ECM) and to Ground (GND).
- Specification: larger than 9 Mohm.

If the specified values are reached, the wire connection is OK.

C - The consumption display has no logical or a fluctuating consumption value.

The consumption display deviates from the actual fuel consumption.
- Perform adaptation of consumption display.
