Steering System, Pressure Check



Vane pump delivery pressure, checking
Special tools and workshop equipment required





^ 3094 Hose clamps
^ VAG 1402 Power steering test unit
^ VAG 1402/3 Adapter





^ Clamp off suction and return lines with hose clamps -3094-.
^ Unbolt expansion hose on vane pump.
^ Attach seal, part no. N 013 844 4 to adapter VAG 1402/3.
^ Screw adapter VAG 1402/3 into vane pump in place of banjo bolt.





^ Screw pressure gauge VAG 1402 hose onto adapter VAG 1402/3.





^ Close shut-off valve on gauge (lever pointing to the left).
^ Remove hose clamps -3094- and add fluid to reservoir if necessary.

Check pressure

Notes: To reduce the risk of damaging the pump, note the information:
^ Do not allow the engine to run for more than 10 seconds when carrying out this test.
^ Start the engine without pressing the accelerator and let it run at idling speed.
^ Read off the pump pressure at idling speed immediately after starting the engine (if necessary, have a second technician read off the pressure).
^ The pressure will drop during the test," take the highest pressure reading as the test value

Specification: 120 - 130 bar (1740 - 1885 psi)
^ Switch off engine.

If the test result does not meet the specification, replace vane pump, Refer to Power Steering Pump, Service and Repair.
^ Check hydraulic oil level.
^ Bleed steering system, Refer to Power Steering Bleeding, Service and Repair.
^ Check steering system for leaks.
