Initiating & Checking Control Module Versions
Navigation system RNS 4.0 (Nav 4) On Board Diagnostic (OBD), initiating
Test Requirements:
- Check fuse for function according to wiring diagram.
- Connect VAS 5051 tester or VAG 1551 scan tool.
- Switch on ignition.
NOTE:
- If nothing is indicated on display, check voltage supply for VAG 1551 scan tool according to wiring diagram.
- Additional instructions can be called up via the HELP button on the scan tool.
- The -> button is used for advancing through the program sequence.
- An incorrect entry can be canceled using the C- button.
- Function 00 "Automatic test sequence" can be performed in operating mode 1 "Rapid data transfer". This automatically checks all control modules installed in the vehicle.
- Switch on ignition.
- Switch printer on via the PRINT button (indicator lamp in button lights up).
- Press button -1 - to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 1.

- Press buttons -3- and -7-.

- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Coding 00000 WSC XXXXX
- Indicated on display after approx. 5 seconds:
- 4B0919887A: Part number of control module for navigation (see also parts program)
- BNS 4.0: component marking
- 0001: Software version of control module for navigation with CD drive
- Coding 00000: Coding not used
- WSC XXXXX: Workshop code (dealership number)
Displayed in display of instrument cluster:
DIAG
- Press -> button.

Control module not responding!
If one of these messages is displayed, perform trouble shooting according to troubleshooting diagnostic.

- Pressing the HELP button will print out an overview of all of the possible functions.
- Press the -> button to continue program sequence.

The following functions are possible:
01 - Check Control Module Version.
02 - Check DTC Memory.
03 - Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).
05 - Erase DTC Memory.
06 - End Output.
08 - Read Measuring Value Block.
10 - Adaptation.
