Scan Tool VAG1551/1552 or VAS5051 Connecting/Selecting Function



^ Test requirements. On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Test Requirements

Notes:
^ During On Board Diagnostic the ABS function is shut off by the control module.
^ If a malfunction occurs in the system while "Check DTC memory" or "Read measuring value block" are being performed, it will be recognized by the control module and indicated by the ABS warning light -K47- lighting up. This is an aid for tracing sporadic malfunctions.
^ DTC memory can be erased after malfunctions are successfully repaired and DTC memory has been checked.

- Remove cover for diagnostic connections.





- With ignition switched off, connect VAG1551 to diagnostic connection with VAG1551/3, or VAS5051 with diagnostic cable VAS5051/1 or diagnostic adapter VAS5051/2.

Notes: If display does not appear, check connector for On Board Diagnostic. Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations binder

Notes:
^ Depending on the program, additional operating notes can be printed out via the HELP button of VAG1551.
^ The --> button is used to continue the program sequence.
^ Press the PRINT button to switch on the printer (light in button lights up).
- Switch ignition on.
- Switch printer on with the PRINT button (indicator light in the button lights up).
- Press button 1 for operating mode "Rapid data transfer."

- Press buttons 0 and 3 for address word for "Brake Electronics."

- Press Q button to confirm input.

Notes: If an error occurs in communication link between VAG 1551 and control module, any of the following four notes can appear on display:











- Press HELP button to print out a list of possible malfunction causes.





- Check wiring connections of diagnostic wire "K." -- Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations binder
- Check supply voltage and ground connection to control module - J104.
- Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations binder





If display shows:
- Eliminate malfunction. go to Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations binder - Press --> button.
- After eliminating malfunctions, enter address word 03 for "Brake Electronics" and confirm with Q button.





If communication between VAG1551 and the control module is OK, display will show control module identification:

Indicated on display
^ Control module identification number, e.g. 8N0 907 379 A Assignment of control module =, Refer to parts supplier.
^ System designation, e.g. ABS/EDL 20 IE or ATC 20 IE
^ Data - BUS available (CAN)
^ Hardware and software status, e.g 0001
^ Code No. of control module, e.g. 13204.
^ Workshop code (WSC XXXXX) go to Operating instructions of scan tool
Workshop code, WSC XXXXX, shows the dealership where the control module was last coded.

Notes: If the control module identification number does not appear, check diagnostic wiring. go to Electrical Wiring Diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component Locations binder - Press --> button.

Notes: After pressing HELP button an overview of the possible functions is printed out. After pressing --> button, VAG1551 program returns to starting point.
