Scan Tool VAG1551/1552 or VAS5051 Connecting/Selecting Function



VAG1551 Scan Tool (ST), connecting and selecting functions

Note:
- During On Board Diagnostic (OBD), the ABS function is switched off in the control module.
- If a malfunction occurs in the system during one of the functions "Check DTC memory" or "Read measuring value block", it will be recognized. This is indicated by the illumination of the ABS warning light -K47- and facilitates the search for "sporadic malfunctions".
- DTC memory can be erased after repair has been completed and DTC memory has been checked.

- Remove cover for Data Link Connector (DLC).






- With ignition switched off, connect VAG1551 to the Data Link Connector (DLC) using VAG1551/3 connector or connect the VAS5051 to the DLC using the VAS5051/1 connector.

Note: If nothing is indicated on the display, check the harness connector for On Board Diagnostic (OBD); Electrical Test; test steps 25 and 26.

Note:
- Depending on the program, additional operating information can be printed out by pressing the HELP button of the VAG1551 scan tool.
- The --> -button is used for advancing through the program sequence.
- The PRINT button is used for switching on the printer (lamp in button lights up).

- Switch on ignition.

- Switch printer on via the print-button (indicator lamp in button lights up).

- Press button -1- to select "Rapid data transfer", operating mode 1.

- Press buttons -0- and -3- (03 is the address word for the vehicle system to be tested, "brake electronics").

- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Indicated:
- The control module identification number.
e.g. (8N0 907 379 E)
Allocation of the control module
- The system code. (ESP)
- Data-BUS. (CAN)
- The actual coding of the control module. (00241)

- Press --> button.

Note: Pressing the -HELP- button will print out an overview of all of the possible functions:

Note: If one of the adjacent malfunction messages is indicated on the display, print out possible malfunction causes via the HELP button.






The fuses for inlet/outlet valves S9, S178 and S179 represent one possible malfunction cause.






Check whether ignition is switched on.






Malfunctions occurred while checking the control module identification (possible external sources?)

- Check diagnostic cable as well as the voltage supply and Ground (GND) connection for the ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104-.

- After repairing potential malfunction cause, re-enter address word 03 for "Brake electronics" and press -Q- button to confirm.
