Fuel Tank: Testing and Inspection

Procedure
- Note radio code (for vehicles equipped with coded anti-theft radio). Obtain if necessary.







- If installed, remove cover above battery.







- Open battery protective casing (Velcro).
- Switch ignition off and disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap (arrow).

A - Procedure for more than 2/3 full fuel tank
- Remove fuel filler cap from fuel filler unit.
- Mark a measurement of 1350 mm on a hose with an external







- Insert hose -3- into fuel filler unit up to this marking (arrow).







NOTE:
- On the lower end of the fuel filler unit, there is a spherical valve -2- in the fuel tank -1-, which must not be excessively pressured or damaged via the siphoning hose -3-. Therefore, hose should only be inserted to marking.
- If the hose can only be inserted with difficulty, smear it with engine oil. Never use lubricants containing silicon.


- Connect hose to siphoning hose to VAG1433A using appropriate adapters.
- Remove fuel from tank as much as possible via fuel filler unit.
- Carefully remove siphoning hose.
- Removing fuel pump. Refer to "Fuel Pump, Removing and Installing (All wheel drive)", Service and Repair
- Siphon off remaining fuel in right chamber of fuel tank through opening for fuel pump.
- Insert hose in left chamber of fuel tank and siphon off remaining fuel.

B - Procedure for less than 2/3 full fuel tank
- Removing fuel pump. Refer to "Fuel Pump, Removing and Installing (All wheel drive)", Service and Repair
- Siphon off remaining fuel in right chamber of fuel tank through opening for fuel pump.
- Insert hose in left chamber of fuel tank and siphon off remaining fuel.
