Driver's Side Airbag Unit, Removing And Installing

CAUTION: Always read updated safety regulations for repair work on airbags.







1 - Steering wheel
2 - Coil connector
3 - Airbag unit
4 - Multi-point socket head bolt
- 60 Nm (44 ft lb)
- Must always be replaced
5 - Torx(R) bolts (T 30)
- 7 Nm (62 in. lb)
6 - Torx(R) key (T 30)
7 - Coil connector with slip ring

Removing

CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for performing repair work on airbags.

- Unbolt airbag unit using a T30 Torx(R) key.
- Disconnect connector - 2 -.
- Lay airbag down with the padded side upward.

Installing

- Make sure that connector 2 - engages audibly (click).
- Bolt on the airbag unit (7 Nm/62 in. lb).

WARNING: Make sure no one is in vehicle when connecting battery.

- Switch ignition on and connect battery Ground (GND) strap.

NOTE:
- After connecting battery, check vehicle equipment (radio, clock, electric windows) as per Owner's Manual.
- If the Airbag Warning Light -K75- signals a malfunction after assembling, then DTC memory must be erased and checked again using VAG 1551 scan tool.
