Vehicles With 6-Cylinder Engine

CAUTION: Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:
- Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.
- Switch the ignition off.
- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.
- On vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-off the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting vehicle battery.
- After reconnecting vehicle battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows.
- After reconnecting vehicle battery on vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar, switch-on the emergency (backup) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module.


- Disconnect battery Ground strap with ignition switched off.

Special tools and equipment







- 3299 ribbed belt installation tool with 3299/1 claw for tensioner

Removing







- Pull off front engine cover -arrows-.

NOTE: Mark direction of rotation with chalk or felt pen before removing ribbed belt. Running a used belt in the opposite direction could destroy it.







- To loosen ribbed belt, turn belt tensioner in direction of arrow
- Detach ribbed belt from power steering pump pulley.







- For vehicles with auxiliary heater, remove bolts -arrows-for exhaust pipe of stationary-/auxiliary heater at noise insulation.







- Loosen screws or quick releases -1- and -2- and remove front noise insulation.







- Cut through cable ties -arrows-. Open retainer for starter cable and take out cable.
