Hydraulic System: Testing and Inspection

Pressurized leak test

Special tools and workshop equipment required
VAG 1310 1 or VAG 1310A 1

High-pressure and low-pressure tests
Before you begin: Make sure that the brake system (main brake cylinders brake hoses, brake lines and brake calipers) works properly and is free of leaks.

High-pressure test:
- Remove bleeder screw at one of the front brake calipers. Connect pressure gauge VAG 1310 or VAG 131 OA and bleed.
- Insert brake pedal depressor between brake pedal and driver's seat. Apply pressure to brake pedal until the gauge indicates a pressure of 50 bar. The pressure must not drop by more than 4 bar during the test period of 45 seconds. Replace hydraulic unit if drop in pressure exceeds the above figure.

Low-pressure test:
- Move brake pedal depressor back until pressure gauge indicates pressure of 6 bar (87 ft. lbs.).
- Pressure must not drop by more than 1 bar (14.5 psi) during test period of 3 minutes.
If drop in pressure exceeds specification: replace ABS hydraulic unit.
