Hub carrier (front wheel drive), servicing
1. Hub carrier
^ Seal -arrow- must not graze against wheel bearing unit
^ Do not remove seal
2. Splash plate
3. Wheel bearing unit
^ Replace complete assembly
4. Collared bolt
^ Always replace
^ Tighten to 190 Nm plus additional 180° turn (tighten to 190 Nm with vehicle jacked up; lower vehicle to ground only for the further turn)
^ When vehicle is on the ground, loosen by maximum 90°
5. TORX bolt, 10 Nm
6. Rubber bushing
^ Extracting - Go to Fig. 1
^ Installing - Go to Fig. 2

- Press out rubber bushing in one continual movement.
Note: Hold hub carrier/wheel bearing housing fast while pressing out bushing.

- Clean seat of bushing in hub carrier/wheel bearing housing.
- Coat entire surface of rubber bushing and seat in hub carrier/wheel bearing housing with assembly lubricant G 294 421 A1 -diluted with water to a ratio of 1: 100-.
- Install rubber bushing -A- so that wide collar faces downward -arrow-.
- Press rubber bushing into hub carrier or wheel bearing housing in one continual movement until collar of rubber bushing makes contact with tool VW 792 and is noticeably under pressure.
Note:
^ If pressing in process is interrupted, rubber swells and bushing cannot be pressed in any further without damage.
^ Hold hub carrier/wheel bearing housing fast while pressing in bushing.
- Press rubber bushing back again until dimension a = 10 ± 0.8 mm.
