Ignition System: Service Precautions
Safety Precautions
To prevent injuries to persons and/or damage to the fuel injection and ignition system, observe the following:
- Do not touch or disconnect ignition wiring when the engine is running or at starting speed.
- The ignition must be switched off the before connecting or disconnecting ignition system wiring. This also applies to high-voltage cables and measuring instrument leads.
- In order to run engine at starting speed without actually starting it (for example, in order to test compression), unplug connector from the output stage of the ignition coils and also the connectors on the injectors.
- In the case of some tests, a DTC may be recognized and stored by the control module. At the end of all tests and repairs, the DTC memory should be checked and, if necessary, erased. After erasing the DTC memory the readiness code must be produced.
- Always switch off the ignition before washing the engine.
- Always switch off the ignition before connecting or disconnecting the battery, otherwise the engine control module may be damaged.
