Tie rods, removing and installing

Special tools and equipment
^ VAG 1923

Left and right tie rods are identical.
They can be removed and installed without taking out steering gear.

Removing
- Unbolt front wheel.





- Loosen bolts -3- and -4- and pull tie rod end downward and out.
- Remove cover of tie rod.





- Unfasten clamps at boot.
- Pull boot outward as far as possible.





- Unscrew tie rod with VAG 1923.

Installing
- Tighten tie rod to 100 Nm.
- When installing boot, make sure that:
Smaller diameter of boot snaps into groove in tie rod.
Boots do not become twisted.
- Replace clamp.
- Check wheel alignment.
