Condition

^ After unlatching, the glove compartment cover opens slowly or doesn't open at all. The glove compartment door is then pulled open, and the hinges can be broken.

^ The performance of the glove compartment latch is not affected by this condition.

Technical Background

Glove compartment cover brake element (damper) is faulty.

Production Solution





Improved brake element (damper) and reinforced glove compartment cover hinges from model year 2007. Improved brake element (damper) is identified as version 09S or higher. Only improved parts are available.

Service

If the glove compartment door opens slowly, replace the brake element (damper). If the glove compartment hinges are broken and the glove compartment cover is available separately (A4, A4 Cabriolet, A8), replace the glove compartment cover only. The A3 glove compartment is only available as an assembly and will need to be replaced as such. In either case, also replace the brake element (damper) if the version is lower than 09S at this time. For this condition do not replace the glove compartment cover without replacing the brake element (damper).
