About Trouble Codes

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Table

NOTE:
- The following tables provide a summary of all DTCs that can be detected by the A/C control head -E87- and displayed on the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST).
- If a malfunction only occurs occasionally, or if DTC memory is not erased after a malfunction has been repaired, the malfunction will be shown as a "sporadically occurring malfunction" (the content of the DTC memory remains until the memory is erased "permanent memory").
- DTCs and blink code (only in the case of individual components) appear only in the printout in operating mode "Rapid data transfer".

Example:
DTC Blink code
5-digit 4-digit
00532 2232

- The malfunction type may also appear in the DTC table below the relevant component. The type offers additional notes (info) for the relevant components.
- After repairs, DTC memory must always be checked again using the VAG1551 scan tool and erased.
- Before replacing components, always check the relevant B+ and Ground (GND) connections (terminal 15, 75, 30 and 31), as well as all harness connectors (between the A/C Control Head -E87- the component indicated as being faulty) according to wiring diagram.
- When dealing with any sporadic DTCs, always pay attention to possible loose terminals in harness connectors.
- After replacing a component of the heating and air conditioning system, always perform basic setting (function 04) and then check and erase DTC memory (functions 02 and 05).
- Use the VAG 1598/11 adapter and VAG 1598/12 adapter to test the electrical connections of the A/C Control Head -E87- according to wiring diagram.
- If the A/C Control Head -E87- continues to function after the ignition has been switched off, check for a short circuit to B+ in the wiring to -E87- (connector -D-, terminal 1).
- If the fresh air/recirculated air flap on vehicles with sunroof incorporated solar cells does not move to its "fresh air" position when the ignition is switched off, check the continuity of the power supply, which should be maintained after the ignition is switched off (via connector -A-, terminal 10 of A/C Control Head -E87-), Electrical Testing (electrical testing).
- If a malfunction is detected in the potentiometer of one of the air distribution positioning motors, the air distribution can be changed by pressing the buttons of the A/C Control Head -E87-.
- The display is changed from °C (Celsius) to °F (Fahrenheit) and vice-versa by pressing the button "Temperature + Driver's side" while simultaneously holding down the air recirculating button.
- If problems have been reported with the heating and air conditioning system but no malfunctions can be detected, perform the following functions: Carry out "0utput Diagnostic Test Mode" (function 03) and "Read measuring value block" (function 08).
- Check cooling performance of climate control
- Check the following, if a malfunctioning temperature control has been detected and no malfunction is displayed:
- Correct installation of temperature sensor.
- Reversed wiring to Sunlight Photo Sensor -G107-
- Function of Interior Temperature Sensor Fan -V42- (installed in A/C Control Head -E87-).
- Activation of both temperature flaps via the relevant actuator motors.
- If the DTC memory is checked with the VAG 1551 or VAG 1552 scan tools for certain malfunction types there is not text display (malfunction text will not be implemented in the program card for this scan tool).
- The air conditioning control changes with the 2001 to 2002 model year change. The climate control conversion on the Audi allroad does not occur with the 2001 to 2002 model year change, but instead changes in model year 2002.
