Crash Signal, Checking

Crash signal, checking

If an accident occurred which led to the activation of the seat belt tensioner/airbag, the engine control module shuts off the activation of the fuel pump relay. Therefore, excessive fuel delivery is prevented in case the fuel system is damaged.

As long as the malfunction "Crash shut-down activated" is stored or not erased in the engine control module, the pre-run of the fuel pump with ignition key on is inaccessible (no pre-pressure in fuel system). Therefore, it is possible that the engine starts with a delay.

- Connect VAG 1598/31 test box to wiring harness for engine control module. DO NOT connect to engine control module itself, Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks/Connecting VAG 1598/31 Test Box" Testing and Inspection
- Test following wiring connections for open circuit and/or short to B+ or Ground (GND) and open circuit.

VAG 1598/31 Airbag control module, terminal
test box socket

67

Resistance in wiring: max. 1.5 ohm

Eliminate open circuit or short circuit.

If no malfunctions are found in wiring: Check DTC memory of airbag control module.
- Display readiness code, Refer to "Monitors, Trips and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Displaying Readiness Code" Testing and Inspection . Readiness code must be generated if DTC memory was erased, Refer to "Monitors, Trips and/or Drive Cycle (Readiness Codes)/Generating Readiness Code" Testing and Inspection
