Body - Window Operation Slow Or Jerky

Condition





Front or rear door glass seems to be too tight in the window channel and operates slowly or chatters.

Technical Background

This may be caused by window glass channel dimensions that are out of tolerance (too narrow).

Production Solution

Front window channel tolerance improved.

Service

Figure 1:





Repair channel tolerance by widening channel using special Tool No: JC4300 as follows:

Tip: For all models listed, prior to regulator repair or replacement especially on rear windows), ensure window channel tolerance is within specification. (Use tool to check.)

Front door

Figure 2:





- Remove front door component carrier. (See Repair Manual - Body Exterior, Repair Group 57, "Front door component carrier, removing and installing".)

- Remove window. (See Repair Manual - Body Exterior, Repair Group 57, "Window regulator and door window, removing and installing".)

- Widen window channel (Figure 2, A) using special tool (Figure 1).

Rear door

- Remove rear door component carrier. (See Repair Manual - Body Exterior, Repair Group 58, "Rear door component carrier, removing and installing".)

- Remove window. (See Repair Manual - Body Exterior, Repair Group 58, "Window regulator and door window, removing and installing .)

- Widen window channel (Figure 3, A) using special tool as follows:

Window Channel, widening

To widen channel:

- Push wedge (Figure 4, D) into and along channel. (See Tip below.)

- Push wedge (Figure 4, D) on the underside (Figure 5, B) into the channel and continue pushing until in reaches the Figure 5, C area.

Tip: Do not alter the upper section of "C" (C = 5cm).

Component carrier, Installing

During reassembly, install new window channel seal.

Tip: When ordering seal, take note whether you are working with tinted glass or regular glass.

Always replace window clips on rear doors (2 per side) Part No: 8D0 845 233.

Tip: Align door glass with B - pillar side (Figure 5) during installation.

- Reinstall front or rear component carrier. (See appropriate Repair Manual Group.)

- Verify window operation.
