Transmission and Drivetrain: Service Precautions
Safety Precautions
If the use of test and measuring equipment is required during test drives, the following precautions must be observed:
CAUTION!
- The test and measurement equipment must always be secured on the rear seat and operated from there by a second person.
- If the test and measurement equipment is operated from the passenger seat, the person sitting there could be injured in an accident from deployment of the passenger side airbag.
In order to prevent injuries to persons and/or destruction of electrical and electronic components, the following precautions must be observed:
- Attach measurement and test equipment terminals only with the ignition switched OFF.
- With some tests it may happen that the control module detects and stores a trouble code. For this reason, the DTC memory must be read and if necessary deleted after completing all tests and repairs.
- Disconnecting and attaching battery terminals must only be carried out with the ignition switched OFF, otherwise the Transmission Control Module (TCM) can be damaged.
CAUTION! Observe precautions when disconnecting battery terminals.
Note on towing
CAUTION! When the vehicle is towed, the transmission selector lever must be in position N. and it must not be towed more than 50 km and not above 50 km/h, otherwise the transmission will be destroyed.
Note: It is not possible to tow the vehicle in order to start the engine, for example when the battery is too weak or the starter is not working.
