Measuring Drive Pinion Runout

NOTE:
^ The radial runout must always be measured if the pinion or drive shaft flange has been removed.
^ The radial runout can also be measured with the rear final drive installed, the drive shaft must be flanged onto the final drive. Refer to instructions refer to Replacement. Service and Repair.





- Mount holder VW 387 together with gauge on housing.
- Install dial indicator on ground diameter in drive shaft flange and zero with 1 mm pre-load.
- Turn differential gear via both drive flanges (at same time) in one direction until drive shaft flange has made one complete revolution.
- Mark greatest radial runout on outer flange (corresponds to greatest distance from axis of rotation).
- Remove old marking from flange/drive shaft.
