Preparing For Window Installation
Preparing For Window Installation
Undamaged Removed Window
NOTES:
- When reusing an undamaged window, smoothly cut back the adhesive material on the glass and flange using VAG1510 electric knife and VAG1510/8 scraper; do not completely remove residue.
- The remaining material serves as a base for the new adhesive.
- Keep the adhesive area free from dirt and grease.
- Do not prime or use a cleaning solution on the adhesive surface.
NOTE: If the window flange becomes damaged during removal, repair the paint structure and if necessary carry out corrosion protection measures.
New Glass
NOTES:
- The circumference of the adhesive area (the edge of the primer to the edge of the glass) is identified by two dotted lines - 2 -.
- The primer and the adhesive must be applied in the center of these two lines.
- Clean adhesive area of glass all around using glass cleaner D 009 401 04.
CAUTION: The ceramic area on the glass is not a primer. Area must be primed before applying adhesive material.
- Bond strips - 3 - on glass side of dome at left and right.
CAUTION:
- Avoid contact between primer/adhesive bead and collector rail of rear defroster during primer application.
- With replacement parts, an adhesive plug is supplied next to the collector rail for this purpose.
- Using applicator - 1 - (felt ball and wire Part no. D 009 500 25), apply primer - 2 - (Part no. D 009 200 02) around circumference and between markings on glass.
- By applying primer, distance to glass edge dimension - b - is specified.
- Primer width (dimension - a -) is specified by markings on glass.
- Drying time approx. 10 minutes.
NOTE: Touch up the primer strip only after the primer has thoroughly dried.
- Adhesive material is applied around circumference and centered on primer.
