Distributor Gear, Servicing
CAUTION!
If the ATF oil pan is removed, or there is no ATF in the transmission, DO NOT start the engine or tow the vehicle.
Notes:
^ The parts shown in the following illustration can be removed while the transmission is installed.
^ Rules of cleanliness for working on the automatic transmission.
^ Refer to general repair instructions.
^ Coat O-rings with Vaseline. Other types of lubricant lead to malfunctions in the hydraulic transmission control.
1 - Bolt
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
2 - Drive flange, rear
3 - Sealing ring
^ For rear drive flange -2-.
4 - Mounting bolt
^ Tighten to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)
^ For housing cover -5-
^ Qty: 4

6 - O-ring
^ Coat with transmission fluid
7 - Circlip
^ For ball bearing -8- (on front gear 1, item -9-)
8 - Ball bearing
^ For front gear 1, item -9-
9 - Front gear 1
^ For rear ring gear and pinion set
^ If damaged, only replace together with front gear 2, item -17-
^ To remove and install together with items -7- and -8-, pull out of distributor gear -13-, to back
10 - Snap ring
^ For needle bearing -11-

^ For front gear 1, item -9-
^ Remove only to replace
^ when replacing distributor housing -13-, heat to 80 - 100°C (176 - 212°F) and drive needle bearing out to back using suitable mandrel
^ Drive in to stop using sleeve 30-21
12 - Bolt
^ Tighten to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)
^ Loosen and tighten diagonally
13 - Distributor housing
^ Can be replaced if damaged
14 - Clamping nut
^ For rear drive flange -2-
15 - Needle bearing
^ For front gear 2, item -17-
^ Remove only to replace
16 - Snap ring
^ Secures needle bearing -15- in distributor housing -13-
17 - Front gear 2
^ For rear ring gear and pinion set
^ If damaged, replace only together with front gear 1, item -9-
^ To remove and install, remove distributor housing -13-and pull out together with items -18 -,-19- and -23-
18 - Ball bearing
^ For front gear 2, item -17-
19 - Snap ring
^ Secures ball bearing -18-in distributor housing -13-
20 - Fastening ring
^ For ball bearing -18-
^ Before installing, clip on guide plate -21-
21 - Guide plate
^ Clip onto fastening ring
22 - Mounting bolt
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
^ For fastening ring -20-
23 - Circlip
^ Secures ball bearing -18- on front gear 2, item -17-
24 - Gasket
25 - Torsen differential
^ Replace complete unit if damaged
26 - Double sealing ring
27 - Magnet
28 - Dowel sleeve
^ Qty:2

^ For distributor gear
^ With attached cover
^ Installation location: without breather, cover must project 10 - 11 mm (0.39 - 0.43 inch) out of housing

^ Tighten to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)
