Compression Check: Testing and Inspection



Compression, checking

Test requirements
Engine oil temperature not less than 30°C

- Remove engine cover.




- Pull connector off Hall sender (G40) -arrow-.
- With ignition switched off, unplug connectors from ignition coils.
- Unbolt ignition coils.
- Remove spark plugs with spark plug spanner 3122B.
- Fully open throttle valve.
- Check compressions with compression tester V.A.G 1381 or V.A.G 1763.

Note: Using the compression tester: Refer to Operating instructions

- Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

Compression pressure:




- Install spark plugs and ignition coils.
- Check DTC memory.

Note: DTCs will be stored in file memory because connectors have been unplugged. Therefore, check and erase DTC memory after installing the engine.
