Ignition Switch: Service and Repair
Ignition/starter switch, removing and installing
CAUTION: Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:
- Obtain the anti-theft radio security code.
- Switch the ignition off.
- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.
- After reconnecting battery, re-code and check operation of anti-theft radio. Also check operation of clock and power windows according to Owner's Manual.
Removing
- Remove steering column switches.
- Disconnect electrical connection -4- for immobilizer reader coil (where applicable).
- Disconnect electrical connection -1- on ignition/starter switch -2-.
- Remove sealing paint from the two retaining screws -A-.
- Loosen retaining screws -A- slightly, then pull ignition/starter switch -2 out of steering lock housing -3- in direction of -arrow-.
Installing
NOTE:
- When installing, the ignition/starter switch and the lock cylinder must be in the same position, e.g. "Ignition on."
- Seal the two retaining screws on the steering lock housing with paint again after they are tightened.
- Install in reverse order of removal.
