Oil seal for drive flange (right), replacing





^ 3287 A Ball joint puller
^ V.A.G 1669 or 6 mm hex socket, at least 190 mm long (commercially available type)
^ Special tool T10037
^ Special tool T10049
^ Drip tray

Removing





- Unscrew nut on connecting link from right end of anti - roll bar.





- Remove upper nut on right suspension ball joint.
- Apply ball joint splitter as shown in illustration and press out ball joint.

Notes: To protect the thread, leave the nut screwed a few turns on the ball joint thread.

- Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left.





- Remove heat shield for right drive shaft from bevel box.
- Unbolt right drive shaft at transmission, move clear and tie up.
- Place drip tray under the engine.





- Unbolt the oil return pipe for the turbocharger from the sump and the cylinder block (arrows -2- and - 3 -).
- Place container under the transmission.
- Remove right hand drive flange bolt - arrow 1 -using V.A.G 1669.





- Pull out drive flange using special tool T10037.
- Pry out drive flange oil seal using a suitable lever.

Installing





Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:
- Drive in new seal onto stop using special tool T10049.
- Fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with multi-purpose grease.
- Knock in drive flange, turning it at the same time.
- Secure drive flange with cone head bolt.
- Fit new seal on turbocharger oil return pipe and install.
- Check oil in transmission with bevel box.
- Fill up with engine oil:
