Special tools and equipment
^ VAG 1331 Torque wrench
^ VAG 1410 Torque wrench
^ VAG 1869/2 Brake pedal depressor
Notes:
^ Always install the complete repair kit.
^ After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in the normal operating position.
^ To draw off brake fluid from the reservoir, use a bleeder bottle which is used only for brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous and must on no account be sucked out by mouth using a hose!
^ The tightening torque of the brake lines is 15 Nm.
1. Brake disc cover
2. Flange bolt, 10 Nm
^ M6x12
3. Brake hose
^ Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads
4. Holder
^ Bolt to brake caliper housing
5. Hex bolt, 10 Nm
6. Spring clip
7. Brake line, 15 Nm
^ Screw into brake caliper housing
^ Screw into brake hose, counter holding at hexagon on brake hose.
^ Ensure that lugs are properly seated in retainer groove
8. Connector
^ remove from holder -Item 4- when replacing the pads
9. Ribbed bolt, 190 Nm
^ Clean ribbing if reusing
10. Brake carrier
^ Bolt to wheel bearing housing
11. Brake pads
Note: The inner pad (with expansion spring) has an arrow. The arrow should point in the direction of rotation of the brake disc when travailing forward. If installed incorrectly this may cause noise problems.
^ The outer brake pads are provided with an adhesive sheet on the backing plate of the pad. Remove the protective sheet before inserting pads.
^ Front left and right-hand brake pad wear indicator
^ Once the wear limit is reached (limit: 2 to 3 mm), the warning light in the instrument cluster comes on.
^ Different versions, Refer to Parts Supplier
^ Always replace on both sides of the car
^ Removing and installing, Refer to Brake Pads, Service and Repair
Note: Always clean the brake calipers (no grease) before inserting new brake pads. When doing this, make sure that all adhesive sheet residue on the contact surfaces of the outer brake pad is removed.
12. Retention spring
^ Insert in both holes in brake caliper housing
Note: After inserting the retaining spring into the two holes, press it under the brake carrier. If incorrectly installed, it is not possible to adjust the wear of the outer pad, and the pedal travel will be increased as a result.
13. Brake disc
^ Always replace on both sides of the car
^ Remove brake caliper prior to removing
^ Always dress evenly, on both sides, starting from thickness when new
^ Thickness, Refer to Brakes and Traction Control, Specifications, Mechanical
