Heated front window -Z2-, checking activation

Special tools and equipment

- V.A.G 1598 A test box and V.A.G 1598/11 adapter cable and V.A.G 1598/12
- VAS 5051 Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System with VAS 5051/7 test leads
- V.A.G 1594 A connector test kit

- Switch ignition off.
- Remove A/C Control Head -E87-.







- Connect V.A.G 1598 A test box with V.A.G 1598/11 adapter cable between connector -C- and A/C control head -E87-. Connecting VAG 1598/22 Test Box
- Connect V.A.G 1598/12 adapter cable between connector -D- and A/C control head -E87- (use a second V.A.G 1598 A test box or connect tester directly to V.A.G 1598/12 using suitable test leads from V.A.G 1594 A connector test kit. Connecting VAG 1598/22 Test Box

NOTE: The terminal assignment of connector -C- on V.A.G 1598/11 adapter cable and connector -D- on V.A.G 1598/12 adapter cable is identical with the socket assignment on V.A.G 1598 A test box.

- Start engine.

NOTE: All harness connectors on A/C control head -E87- must be connected.







- Measure voltage between terminal 8 in connector -C- (Heated Windshield Control Module -J505-) and terminal 16 in connector -D- (Ground connection).
- Specification: approx. battery voltage

NOTE:
- If a voltage of less than 5 volts is measured, the Heated Windshield Control Module -J505- is currently not ready to switch on the front window heater or there is a short circuit to Ground (GND) in the connection to -J505-.
- If a voltage between 5 volts and 8 volts is measured the A/C control head -E87- activates the -J505- and the -J505- switches on the windshield defroster.
