Speedometer drive wheel, removing and installing
(Transmission installed)





Special tools and equipment
^ VW 295 Mandrel
^ VW 681 Extractor lever
^ 2062 Insertion mandrel
^ T10037 Puller
^ VAG 1331 Torque wrench
^ VAG 1332 Torque wrench

Special tools, testers and other items required





^ VAG 1306 Drip tray

Removing
- Turn steering wheel to left lock.
- If installed, detach cover plate above left drive axle.
- Unscrew drive axle from drive flange.
- Place drip tray in position.





- Remove drive flange by firmly screwing puller T1 0037 to cover of differential (arrow).
- Pull out oil seal of drive flange using VW 681.
- Remove speedometer vehicle speed sensor.

Removing speedometer driving gear:





- Press clips in direction of arrow using a screwdriver.
- Remove driving gear by levering out on all sides.

Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Note: Install driving gear carefully ensuring it is not askew on differential. Do not use force, the driving gear could break.

Installation position:





Driving tab of driving gear -A- faces oil seal -B- and locks in place in groove of differential.
The clips (arrows) engage in circumferential groove of differential.
- Always replace oil seal -B- and circlip -C-.
- Drive in drive flange using mandrel VW 295.
- Topping up manual transmission with oil and checking oil level.
