Electrical Electronic components and locations
1. Transmission Control Module (TCM) for multitronic -J217
^ Component location; Refer to Fig. 1
^ Control module is tested by the OBD system
2. Hydraulic unit
^ Component location; Refer to Fig. 11
^ Valves are tested by the OBD system
3. Shift control mechanism cover
4. Tiptronic Switch -F1 89-
^ Component location: Integral with the printed-circuit board which is located in the cover for the shift control mechanism
^ Consists of 3 Hall sensors which are triggered by a solenoid on the transverse slide of the roll cover
^ Can be tested in Measured Value Block
^ In the event of Tiptronic switch malfunctions, first check whether the solenoid is properly attached to the roll cover, if necessary replace the transverse slide. The circuit board must not be replaced until the wiring connections have been inspected.
5. Shift lock solenoid -N110-
^ Component location; Refer to Fig. 12
^ Can be tested in the Measured Value Block and in Electrical Testing
6. Data Link Connector (DLC)
^ Component location; Refer to Fig. 13,
7. Cruise control switch -E45-
^ Component location; Refer to Fig. 14

9. Power supply relay terminal 87
^ Component location; Refer to Fig. 7,
10. Transmission Range (TR) selector lever display -Y6-
^ Component location; Refer to Fig. 15
^ Flashing transmission range display indicates a critical defect
^ Fully illuminated transmission range display indicates a simple defect; Refer to Transmission Control Module Safety Functions
^ No display points to a wiring fault or a faulty display -Y6-
11. Kickdown switch -F8-
^ Component location; Refer to Fig. 18
^ No mechanical switch . A specific value from the Throttle position sensors -G79-85- is saved in the Engine Control Module (ECM)
^ Signal transmission from the Engine Control Module (ECM) to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) over the CAN bus
^ Can be tested in Measured Value Block
^ Accelerator pedal module removal and installation
12. Brake light switch IF
^ Component location; Refer to Fig. 17
^ Can be tested in Measured Value Block

Component location The Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- is mounted at the rear of the transmission, directly on the hydraulic unit.
The following components are integrated in the control module.
A - Sender for transmission output RPM -G1 95- and Sender 2 for transmission output RPM -G1 96-
B - Transmission fluid temperature sensor -G93-
C - Multifunction transmission range (TR) switch -F1 25-
D - Sensor for transmission RPM -G182-
E - Sender 1 for hydraulic pressure, automatic transmission -G193-
F - Sender 2 for hydraulic pressure, automatic transmission -G194-
CAUTION: Always perform the Adaptation after installing a new Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.

Component location: The hydraulic unit is bolted to the rear of the transmission. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- is bolted directly to the hydraulic unit.
A - Wiring connector for Pressure control valve 1 for automatic transmission -N215-
A - Wiring connector for Pressure control valve 2 for automatic transmission -N216-
C - Wiring connector for solenoid valve 1 -N88-
The following valves are integral on the hydraulic unit (not shown here)
1 - Pressure control valve 1 for automatic transmission -N215-, clutch solenoid valve
2 - Pressure control valve 2 for automatic transmission -N216-, transmission ratio solenoid valve
3 - Solenoid valve 1 -N88, clutch cooling/safety cutoff
4 - Clutch cooling valve
5 - Minimum pressure valve
6 - Pressure control valve
7 - Clutch control valve
8 - Control pressure valve

Component location The DLC is located under the knee bolster to the left of the steering wheel.

Power supply via terminal 87 is handled through the Motronic ECM power supply relay -J271-.
