Condition

MIL ON may be due to Front Oxygen Sensor Fault Codes Bank 1 stored in fault memory.





Possible engine harness damage causes a repeated electrical malfunction of Front Oxygen Sensor of Bank 1 (Bank 1 - Sensor 1) and repeated Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 - Sensor 1 related DTCs within the production range shown.





The Diagnostic Trouble Codes shown may be present.

Depending if it is the first or second occurrence of this condition (MIL ON above DTCs stored in memory) there are two different repair methods. See below

Service

Identify whether it is the first or the second occurrence of this condition (MIL ON, Above DTCs Stored in memory).

First occurrence:

Use standard diagnostic procedures (GFF).

If the heat insulation cover on the harness is not installed, as shown, proceed as follows:

- Obtain part kit 8E0 998 099, which contains Heat insulation cover (Part No. 8D0 971 461), Tie strap (Part No. N 020 902 2) and Anchored tie strap (Part No. 3D0 971 838).





- Install heat insulation cover (Part No. 8D0 971 461) on engine wiring harness at location shown.

- Close snaps on cover (2).

- Slide cover to location where harness branch separates from main harness.

- Install tie strap N 020 902 2 at top of insulation cover (1).





- Install anchored tie strap on threaded stud at plenum wall.

- Loosely install tie strap, as shown, around wiring -arrow-.

- Position the harness to ensure a distance -a- of 40 mm, as shown.

- Completely tighten tie strap.

Second occurrence:





When standard diagnostic procedures (GFF) are completed, proceed as shown.
