Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 61 number 07-01 dated January 30, 2007 for reasons listed below.

61 Headliner is loose in rear

Condition

Figure 1:

After closing the convertible top, the headliner does not return to its normal position. A gap can be seen in the rear area of the headliner near the rear glass.

Technical Background

This condition could be caused by a broken tab at the rear of one or both tensioning cables. This is caused by the tensioning cables getting tangled around the rear mounting tabs during convertible top operation. Since the cables would then be shortened they can tear the rear tab from the mounting rivet and cause a loss of tension on the sides of the headliner.

Production Solution

An additional rubber sleeve is incorporated onto the cable springs to prevent tangling.

Service

Do not replace the headliner for this condition. Use repair kit 8H0 898 160 to repair the damaged rear tab and incorporate an additional rubber sleeve on the cable springs.

The repair procedure can be found in ElsaWeb>>Body>>Body Exterior, Cabriolet>>61 Convertible top/hard top/canopy>>Convertible top, servicing>>Inner headliner, servicing.

Should it be necessary to replace a headliner for another condition, also order this repair kit and install the additional hoses from the kit.
