Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 61 number 07-03 dated February 6, 2007 for reasons listed below.
61 Noises in roof area over rough roads
Condition
Noises from the roof area, particularly from the frame, seals, and door windows, when driving on extremely rough or uneven roads. This condition can be more pronounced in cold weather.
Technical Background
In spite of the coating applied to all soft top seals and contact surfaces in the soft top area and soft top box cover, movements generated between soft top and contact surfaces in the course of driving on extremely rough roads can cause noises in the roof area such as squeaks and rattles.
Production Solution
This is a normal condition in the Cabriolet.
Service
Test drive the vehicle with your customer, driving both with the top open and with the top closed if necessary to isolate the noises. If noises can only be heard during the driving conditions specified in this TSB, please explain to your customer that this is to be expected given these conditions.
If noises are present on smooth roads and the source of the noise is in the seals, apply lubricant part number G 052 172 A1 to the soft top seals. Explain to customer that the seals need regular care as specified in the owner's manual.
It should be noted that these noises are not unique to the Audi Cabriolet but also occur on convertibles from all manufacturers.
Warranty
This TSB is informational only and not applicable to any Audi warranty.
