Read Measuring Valve Block
The control module can supply test data (measured values). These measured values can provide information about the operational condition of the system and the sensors connected to it. In many cases the data supplied can be used to help trace and repair faults. The test data provided by the Bosch 5.3 ABS/EDL are grouped in four Display Groups, which can be called up via Display Group numbers.
- Observe the relevant safety precautions when road testing the vehicle
- Connect VAG 1551 scan tool and select address word 03 for "Brake electronics".
Notes:
^ When the printer is switched on, the contents of the display will be printed out on the scan tool log.
^ When reading measured value block, also check wiring and connectors for intermittent loose contacts.
- Check the control module version.

Notes:
^ Display zones 1 to 4 show the actual wheel speeds (at the tire circumference) in km/h. These are calculated by ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104- on the basis of the signals received from the wheel speed sensors. If one of the display zones shows no reading, proceed as for DTC's 00283, 00285, 00287, 00290 "Speed sensor".
^ In order to check that the speed sensor signals are correctly assigned to the four wheels, the vehicle must be raised. On vehicles with manual transmission put the gear shift in neutral. On vehicles with automatic transmission move the selector lever to position "N". Turn the relevant wheel by hand, and at the same time prevent the other driven wheels from rotating.
^ When the vehicle is accelerated uniformly on a dry surface, the displayed values will increase continuously in rising whole numbers (e.g. to 6 km/h, 7 km/h, 8 km/h...). The difference between displayed values 1 to 4 should be not be more than ± 1 km/h (error from out-of-round-wheels). If the values jump (for instance from 6 km/h, 7 km/h, to 12 km/h) or if the difference between the displayed values is greater than ± 1 km/h, then check the installation of the wheel speed sensors and rotors.
1) The On Board Diagnostic (OBD) is terminated by ABS control module (w/EDL) -J104- if road speed exceeds 19 km/h.

Note: For Display Group 3:
- If you wish to read out the display zones for engine speed and actual engine torque with the engine running, you must first interrupt the diagnostic link between the scan tool and the control module using the function "End Output". Then start the engine and set up the diagnostic link between scan tool and control module once again.
